Maybe it was being at the end of the world

Fisterra - FINIS TERRAE

Maybe it was being at the end of the world

The view: only clouds, mist, rocks, abyss

Maybe it was seeing that art, Mr. Skelly, that said,

“You cannot give your life more time so give your time more life”….

or

”Isn’t funny how much time we thought we had?”

Maybe it was the sound of the ocean, the wind and rain that whipped through the open window last night

Maybe it was the 7 million people that marched across what I used to call “nuestra pais” and just recently began calling, “donde nací”.

Maybe it was my daughter seeing a wolf in broad daylight

Maybe it was the walk down from the mountain where we talked of all the places we wanted to live in the world

Maybe it was you saying, “The world is big again” in the kitchen

Maybe it was leaving to become a finder

Maybe it was the first anniversary of her death that brought Aperol spritzer to our lips

Maybe it was listening to a friend talk about the trauma of deportation

The vulnerability of a human soul – being honest

Whatever it was

I stopped crying for the suffering I could not change

And started crying for the things I was grateful for

This strange and wild human time

That does not stop for any of us

That continues to blow by

with tides

phases of the moon

seasons

rotating

turning

aging

cleansing

burning

pumping

blood

oxygen

muscle

bone

breath

Yes, my love,

the world is big again

before

our

opened

eyes
